Rob Thomson gets ejected

Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson had an old-school umpire argument on Sunday in protest of a reversed call that went against his team.

It initially appeared that Orioles pitcher Corbin Burnes hit Philadelphia’s Garrett Stubbs on the foot with a breaking ball during the sixth inning of Sunday’s game. However, the umpires determined that was not the case after some consultation, prompting Thomson to go nuts on home plate umpire Mike Estabrook. Estabrook gave it right back to him, too.

The call was not so egregiously wrong that Thomson’s explosion was warranted, but the Phillies had been frustrated by the strike zone up to this point as well. It doesn’t help that they were trailing 8-2 at the time, either.

When it comes to problems with Estabrook, a lot of former Milwaukee Brewers can sympathize with Thomson. It’s not exactly a great look for umpires that Estabook was so eager to argue back, but it made for good viewing for fans, at least.
