Oklahoma has given head football coach Brent Venables a contract extension.

Oklahoma’s Board of Regents approved a six-year, $46.05 million contract extension for Venables that runs through the 2029 season.

The raises for Venables will begin next year.

The base salary listed do not include a $600,000 annual payment that Venables receives. If you include that, Venables will make $49.65 million, with an average annual value of $8.28 million.

The contract represents a major turnaround for Venables, who went 6-7 in his first season as the Sooners’ head coach. But Oklahoma turned things around last year by going 10-3, including a win over eventual CFP contender Texas.

Quarterback Dillon Gabriel produced big numbers last season (30 passing touchdowns, 12 rushing touchdowns) for the Sooners. The Sooners will likely have Jackson Arnold taking over at quarterback as they begin play in the SEC.
